TENTH STREET PUMP STATION EXPANSION - SCREENING & GRIT REMOVAL FACILITY AND FORCE MAIN CONSTRUCTION

The Tenth Street Pump Station (TSPS) collects all of the Jeffersonville combined sewer area and is the primary conveyance of wastewater to the Downtown Wastewater Treatment Plant (DWWTP). Modifications to expand the 15 MGD station were required to reduce combined sewer overflow events to the Ohio River and meet the City’s Consent Decree.

The City of Jeffersonville, Indiana Sewer Board retained VS to complete the study, prepare preliminary engineering report, assist with SRF funding and documentation requirements, and prepare final design and construction documents for the project. The principal tasks performed for the project were:

  • Evaluation and modification of existing pump station
  • Development of diversion structure, including a screening unit for combined sewer overflows
  • Development of screening and grit removal facility, design capacity 50 MGD
  • Evaluation of pumping conditions and design and selection of proposed pumps
    • While wet-weather design capacity of 50 MGD was required, average daily flows of less than 2 MGD will remain and also had to be considered
  • Design of over 4,000 feet of 36-inch force main to couple with the existing 24-inch force main, including jack & bore crossings of a major thoroughfare and railroad with ultimate discharge to a modified headworks structure at the DWWTP
  • Evaluation and development of instrumentation and controls to coordinate with City’s telemetry system and maximize flows to the DWWTP
  • Coordination and permitting with INDOT due to the impacts on adjacent I-65 interchange
  • Preparation of plans and specifications for proposed improvements
  • Evaluation of Contractor Bids and qualifications summarized to City of Jeffersonville for their use
